Joe Biden Delaying His First Solo Press Conference For 64 Days Could End Up Brutally Backfiring

It’s truly incredible to think that the sitting U.S. president has still not delivered a solo, unscripted press conference with two months in office under his belt.

One has to wonder what kind of message that sends America’s adversaries? Let’s be honest, it’s a sign of major weakness, given that virtually the entire world knows that President Joe Biden has trouble getting through a teleprompter-guided speech, let alone face reporters with questions that he’s probably not prepared to answer.

America’s adversaries are licking their chops, make no mistake.

As the Washington Examiner pointed out, Biden will hold his first solo press conference (barring a last-minute cancellation or other excuses) on Thursday. That day will mark his 64th day in office and he’s already set a 100-year record for going the longest stretch without giving a press conference upon assuming office in the White House.

What was also pointed out is the fact that such a long delay could backfire on the president in tremendous fashion, as all the delay has accomplished is that it set the bar much higher for Thursday night when he begins taking questions from the press.

Couple that with the out-of-control crisis currently brewing on the southern U.S. border, and Biden’s going to have a real challenge on his hands come Thursday night. There’s no doubt that when this presser was originally scheduled, his handlers were focusing on him taking questions about the recently-passed COVID-19 relief package.

But the administration learned this week that virtually nobody cares about that. They care about kitchen-table issues, like how the border crisis will eventually affect American families, jobs and overall security — not to mention the well-being of the thousands of children being held in overcrowded facilities that are running short on supplies.

Republican strategist Alex Conant explained why Thursday’s presser could be especially tricky for a president already prone to misspeaking, confusion and adding to his gaffe list.

“Reporters want to make news, so they’ll ask questions that the White House hasn’t adequately answered already. Sometimes, the White House hasn’t answered those questions for a reason,” Conant said.

While Biden has received a generous pass from most of the mainstream media as far as his verbal missteps and seeming cognitive slips are concerned, Thursday’s press conference could erode that, as issues like the border crisis have transcended political camps in recent days, with many in the typically Biden-friendly media are beginning to cover the story with the scrutiny and seriousness that it deserves.

As much as I personally look forward to the U.S. president finally answering questions from the press without saying “C’mon, man!” and walking away, I dread the inevitable — and possibly numerous — cringe-worthy moments that will come as a result. Taking politics out of it, it’s almost sad in the same sense that it is when listening to cognitively-challenged elders attempting to make a point.

Only time will tell if Biden’s able to handle the event without too many problems, but for the sake of American strength and reputation, he’d better nail it.
